Cultural competence is the skill to interact successfully with people of different cultures. In practice, both persons and organizations can be culturally competent. There were 1.8 billion Muslims in the world as of 2015 – roughly 24% of the global population – according to a Pew Research Center estimate. Islam is currently the worlds second-largest religion.

The free app is designed to connect users with halal cuisine through fun, enriching and tasty content. This culturally based app was created by students who are underrepresented in the tech world, mainly young Muslim women along with a diverse and talented crew including veterans and tech mavens. Students learned to build a functional app, gained a deeper understanding of programming language and familiarized themselves with the many valuable features of code development and the integrated development environment (IDE). They are also curated and created all app content, marketed and launched the application—all in one entrepreneurial filled summer!

Hungry4Halal was born in Queens, NY. Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island are the first to experience restaurant mapping, but it won’t stop there! We will be expanding to places like Seattle, San Francisco, Philadelphia and many more.
No restaurant mapping near you? You can still enjoy our delicious recipes and amazing videos from anywhere on the globe!
